About
My teaching and research interests intersect the histories of science, technology, and the environment. I am currently working on two book projects: the first is a history of knowing and regulating mercury pollution in the global environment since World War II; the second is a short history of sustainability, tracing its intellectual and political developments to make sense of contemporary ideas about sustainable development.
I am also the director of the Sustainable Future History Project, a cabal of early-career scholars and professionals across North America, trained in environmental history or some related field and concerned about contemporary environmental issues. In addition to building a relevant, web-based project, Sustainable Future History Project members are exploring collaborative methods of producing research for scholarly and non-scholarly audiences.
Please refer to my vita for other projects and research initiatives. I welcome inquiries from prospective graduate students at the MA or PhD levels whose interests lie in environmental history or the histories of science and technology, particularly as they relate to the environment.
