About
I am a specialist in modern British history with current research interests in questions of social identity and memory, the politics of commemoration, the cultural history of war, and the history of urban planning and architectural preservation. I have a number of book projects in the works: a history of the representation of Earl Kitchener and Earl Haig in the 20th Century is forthcoming with Ashgate; a co-written (with David Leeson) analysis of war, culture and society in 20th Century Britain is under contract with Palgrave; a monograph on the conflict between London's heritage conservation advocates and future planners is now substantially researched, as is a short book on the reception of Bertrand Russell's _Marriage and Morals (1929)_; work on the Russell Papers, Vol. 18 continues (slowly). With four others I am also embarking on a general survey of British history since 1688 (for Routledge), though that is not expected to be finished before 2015.
I am also currently my Department's Director of Graduate Studies.
